The Ducal Palace, the Zecca and the Campanile in Venice with moored ships in the foreground are seen in this handout photograph of a daguerreotype circa 1851, released in London March 18, 2015. Early daguerreotype photos of Venice that sold as an odd lot at auction for 75,000 pounds ($110,000) belonged to John Ruskin and provide new insight into the work of the Victorian art critic, the authors of a book containing the images said on Thursday. The Venice scenes, taken around 1850 and purchased at an auction in the northern English Lake District in 2006, coincide roughly with Ruskin's work on his epic, three-volume treatise "The Stones of Venice" about Venetian art and architecture. Ravno v času, ko je napisal Beneške kamne (The Stones of Venice), razpravo o beneški umetnosti in arhitekturi v treh zvezkih.

Reprodukcije dagerotipij bodo s še z nekaterimi drugimi podobami, ki so bile v Ruskinovi lasti, izdal v monografiji Carrying Off the Palaces: John Ruskin’s Lost Daguerreotypes.
